Issues Facing Erie County

There are many important issues facing Erie County Government, particularly we experience intense global economic changes. Erie County is blessed with over 800 elected and appointed officials in 39 municipalities and 13 school districts.

Like most things in life, we don't focus on everyone else's job, but assume that they are doing things correctly - until we need their product or service. You pay your taxes and expect your government to be run efficiently and effectively. And when you need us, it's my job to make sure that we are there for you.

Every day I go to work, I am impressed by the professional people you have working for you in Erie County government. I didn't hire most of them. Working for you is their lifelong careers. They are educated and committed to your service and satisfaction. And the very few times citizens have a problem, they let me know immediately, and we resolve it.

If you look at Erie County government's organizational chart, you will see five categories of services:

  • Taxpayer Services
  • Legal & Corrections
  • Health & Human Services
  • Public Safety
  • Economic Development

In each of these areas, we have made significant progress, and in our second administration, we will leap ahead even further.

Over the coming months, I'll tell you about each of these areas, and request your insights and direction - because I work for you.

Sincerely,
Mark A. DiVecchio
